I am not a writer

If you are here, it is because you want to know more about me. I found the bio section of Medium too short to define my love for writing.

I’m not a writer, that much is clear; and English isn’t even my first language. I was taught English at school but only to a basic level of communication. If I’m being frank, it wasn’t even enough to hold a proper conversation without constant pauses, and I was always trying to make out what the words meant or how many of them there were in a sentence.

But I aspire to be a writer. There’s nothing wrong with my job as a veterinary surgeon. You might ask: Why would a vet want to be a writer? Shouldn’t it be the other way around? For me, writing satisfies a craving, an addiction if you like. I have delved inside of me and I think I can clearly define the three reasons of why I write.

Firstly, it keeps me sane. My daily job can be profoundly stressful, but here, when I am self-absorbed in my thoughts and I try to create, I can allow my brain to exercise another section. It feels almost physical: Letting my day job brain rest instead of worrying about my responsibilities, and engaging a part that is inactive and waiting to be used.

The second is a little more altruistic. People consume words, they can’t have enough of them. That’s why all social media…
