About me

When Veterinary Surgeons tell their story, we often hear that they wanted to be a vet since they were in their nappies. My story is a little different. At the age of 17, I still didn’t know what I wanted to be. When I was a child and during my teenage years, I was always surrounded by dogs and horses, and a cat named Tom, but the ‘call’ to become a vet never really came until the moment when I had to decide which degree to study.
A friend of mine, Gerardo, a philosophy teacher I used to spend a lot of time with guided me towards becoming a vet. He said:
‘A vet only needs a case with instruments, and they can go and work anywhere in the world’.
I did as he said, and I finished my degree in veterinary medicine at the University of Córdoba, Spain. After failing at pretty much everything I tried, I finally decided to make the jump to international travel as Gerardo had hinted. My first step was the UK… and surprise, surprise, there was no more travel. I became a junior veterinary surgeon at my local practice where I became a clinical director.
I live in Heanor, England, with my other half Vicki, my son Alejandro, and my dog Luna. In my free time, I enjoy writing about anything, not necessarily veterinary stuff. I often write opinion pieces, but I must stress that these are my opinions only and do not represent those of any of the groups, associations or colleagues I work with.
